Yves Hélie shares his love for music with passion and pleasure since 1988, by teaching diatonic accordion. His youngest student was 6 years old and the eldest was 84 years old, that's just to say that there is no age limit to learn to play an instrument we love.
Before starting to teach his favorite instrument, Yves was planning a professionnal career in the socio-educational field. He was in fact preparing a bachelor's degree in Education in between departures on tour with other musicians, in Quebec, USA and Europe.
But his passion for traditional music and accordion took over while combining in a certain way to his new knowledge in Education to finally teach music through his favorite instrument, the accordion.
Since 1993, he also hosts some initiation or improvement workshops of the musical repertoire from Quebec and elsewhere, during musical camps in Canada, USA and Europe as well.
He teaches to his students the Quebec repertoire, but also some pieces of his own. And since January 2011, Yves also teaches accordion at the new school «Young Musicians of the World» in Sherbrooke. Visit the Friendly Links page for more details on that new school.
In 1999-2000, he produced and directed 17 radio shows entitled : L'Univers de l'Accordéon. Yves also occasionally takes part in the conception, artistic direction and launching of various traditional music albums and gets involved in the organization and/or artistic direction of different shows and festivals such as : the Montreal Celtic and Cajun Festival and the Carrefour Mondial de l'Accordéon in Montmagny (QC) and La Fête des Vendanges in Magog.
For Yves, getting involved in various areas of the same field is an integral part of the pleasure to pass on his love for traditional music and accordion.
